ICT-Technology
Students at NDPS are provided with iPads to support their learning development. This technology was originally made possible through the Gwen and Edna Jones Foundation. Student iPads are used for a variety of purposes to enhance learning and increase student engagement in their education. These include: dedicated ICT classes (focus on technology knowledge and skills, including app use, internet navigation and typing skills) and within other curriculum areas, such as English, Mathematics and Humanities (for research tasks, knowledge consolidation, presentations, and educational games). Student knowledge is often assessed using a range of online resources and iPads- with Essential Assessments and NAPLAN being the most common uses.
The school ensures iPad apps and access to websites meet Department of Education guidelines and fit within the Digital Technology Policy. These will be recognised applications and games that have been proven to assist learning. Staff can advise parents and carers on particular applications that may be used at home to enhance curriculum taught at school.
Social media is not accessible on student iPads, with many applications unsuitable for younger children. NDPS recognises the risks and challenges associated with social media, and students are explicitly taught cybersafety and associated safe internet use. The VicPol members regularly provide student CyberSafety workshops. More information to support parents/ carers can be found: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
The Department of Education recognises Internet Safety can be a tricky subject and provides advice: https://www.vic.gov.au/safe-socials-parents-and-carers-primary
Parents (and older students) will be asked upon enrolment to complete an Acceptable Use Agreement, which outlines responsibilities around technology and internet use.
